Description:
Digital Citizenship is a concept so broad that it can sometimes become counterproductive to use the term.

This session will focus on three pillars that can help define the Digital Citizenship curriculum at your school: Copyright/Ownership, Digital Footprint, and Balanced Lifestyle. These topics can be taught to almost any age group and can be used in any subject.

There is no “perfect way” to implement a digital citizenship program at a school. This session will offer some background information that will serve as discussion starters for our group and for your school.

Google Experience

Workshop Title: 10 Ways to Maximize your Google Experience

Twitter for Teachers

Description:
Twitter for Teachers will introduce educators to the micro-blogging site and its uses for professional development. The concept of a Personal Learning Network will be discussed. Teachers will be required to sign up for a Twitter account before the session, and we will then begin to explore aspects of twitter such as getting started, how to use Twitter (mentions, DM, favourites, hashtags, lists), how to connect with other professionals and finally, depending on the length of the session, uses of Twitter in the classroom.

Workshop Title: Designing Formative Assessments with Google Forms
Presenter:  Gary Johnston

Description: 
Use Google Forms as an assessment tool and some of the script analyzers from the script gallery.

Overview
Google forms are a simple tool to collect survey data but also design assessments. They can be modified to serve as an entry or exit interview depending on your lesson goals.

Part 1 will be an overview of Google Forms and their applications.
Part 2 will be matching assessments to your particular practice in order to measure student learning.
Part 3 will give participants the chance to design a sample assessment that can be completed by workshop participants.
Part 4 will give some tools for analyzing and collating data.

All participants should have a google drive which allows them the ability to create a Google form. If you do not have access to Google Apps, and you are still interested in participating, you will have the opportunity to partner with another participant who works in your particular division or grade level.

PowerPoint and Animoto

Workshop Title: Making young children’s thinking visible, by using PowerPoint and Animoto

For Early years teachers, I will share how I use PowerPoints and photographs (with Picassa collages and Animoto) to
• document learning and record student’s thinking and wonderings,
• ask and record answers to teacher questions
• give photographic evidence of progress and show samples of work,
• help children to reflect on their learning,
• help children share their own learning journey with parents,
• help teachers share learning with parents: What goes in behind the scenes!
• keep a record of what was covered ( I compile the six PowerPoints to send home at end of school year, like a class digital portfolio)

Speak up! Transforming Classroom Discussions
Some students enjoy speaking up in class and others don’t? Why is this? How can we promote more students to share their ideas? This workshop will briefly present research on face-to-face and virtual class discussions. It will provide classroom examples and encourage educators to try different ways to reach their students through different modes of class discussions. Participants will apply their learning in this session by engaging in both face-to-face and virtual discussions. Additionally participants will reflect on the uses of face-to-face and virtual discussions and discuss ways to start using this in their classrooms.
