Using the 5Es Instructional Model to empower student learning

In this workshop, participants will be introduced the 5Es instructional model as a way to stimulate students to form deeper connections with content and concepts. Based on the constructivist learning cycle, the 5Es model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate) guides students to build on their past experiences and apply their newfound knowledge to new and related topics. We will explore each part of the model and look at ways to embed technology to create lessons that are engaging and relevant and that promote higher levels of student learning. While the 5Es model is applicable to all age groups and subject areas, participants will step through a real example of how this was recently applied in a MS Science context. We will discuss real planning, implementation and assessment techniques and I will share tips tips to help you get started successfully.
